Upper Cervical Care
Your spine protects the most important and most amazing structure in your body, your Central Nervous System.  Due to this, extreme specificity is required when dealing with the spine.  The more specific the chiropractor, the less number of adjustments are needed, and healing occurs in a quicker amount of time.  An Upper Cervical Doctor generally pursues additional hours of education in identifying subluxation, as well as adjusting subluxation, and is an expert in the Upper Cervical Spine.  Below are examples of how an upper cervical doctor is different from the general population
The Adjustment

Upper Cervical Chiropractors DO NOT twist, crack or pop the neck. Due to their extensive training and high level of skill, their adjustments are gentle and don't require much force.  In fact, in the majority of cases, a specific chiropractor will only adjust the upper neck (upper cervical spine). The reason is that Upper Cervical Chiropractors realize  that all misalignments in the spine are compensations for subluxation in the upper cervical area. Almost  all of the nerves from our brain must pass through the upper cervical spine, making the Upper Cervical Spine extremely important.  If any part of this complex area is misaligned, problems will occur in the lower spine and in other parts of the body. When the upper cervical area, on the other hand, is properly positioned, energy (including critical impulses and message to and from the brain) flows easily and healing occurs more rapidly. All adjustments are made with the hand.  Due to the complexity of this area, however, much additional training is required to know how to place the vertebra back into its proper position.
Measuring Your Nervous System

Upper Cervical Chiropractors are highly trained in measuring the function of your nervous system by using something called "paraspinal thermography." The readings from this instrument guide the chiropractor to know when to adjust and more importantly when NOT to adjust. An adjustment given at the wrong time can set a patient back months’ in the healing response. This is the most important tool a chiropractor can have in his or her office.
Specific X-Rays

The x-rays taken for Upper Cervical Doctors are extremely specific. While most x-rays are taken to identify massive trauma, Upper Cervical doctors are literally looking at millimeters of misalignments in the cervical area that can be having a major effect on your life. These films are essential for giving you a perfect adjustment when it is needed. We work with a very professional and extremely affordable local image facility. Once it is determined that we can assist you with your condition, we will refer you out to receive a set of x-rays that are needed to proceed.
